TCI was established in 2019, headquartered on Belitung Island but with activities nationwide. Previously, it operated as a local NGO called the Belitung Environmental Care Group, founded in 1998. Its mission is to develop and conserve biodiversity in Indonesia while aiding in the enhancement of community welfare with principles of justice and sustainability. To accomplish this mission, we employ four approaches: conservation, education, advocacy, and productive economic strengthening, one of which focuses on community-based tourism and ecotourism. Our programs have successfully made significant impacts on the environment, society, culture, community economics, and policy, receiving both national and international recognition. These include the receipt of the Equator Prize 2015 from the United Nations in Paris, France, and the Tourism for Tomorrow Award 2019 from the World Travel & Tourism Council in Seville, Spain.
