The English – Bahasa Indonesia Pocket Dictionary was compiled particularly for local community at Merabu village. The increasing number of tourists has increased the enthusiasm of the community to communicate directly with tourists. Foreign languages are often a barrier, especially for villagers who have not learnt English formally.
This dictionary contains daily vocabularies and conversations which are often used during communication with tourists. Each word has its Indonesian version, English version, and how it should be pronounced in English. It is tailored to local context in Merabu, but can be used and adopted to other locations. We hope this dictionary can be useful to increase appreciation and foster friendship between the community and tourists.
